The American Wigeon (Scientific name - Anas americana) is another dabbling or puddling duck that is common in the Western part of North America. They winter as far south as Central America and even into South America.

As you can see the male is much more colourful than the female of the species. Photos were taken at the George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary in March 2013 and April 2012.
