Black Capped Chickadee

One of the most frequent visitors to our backyard in Abbotsford, B.C. is the Black Capped Chickadee. They love splashing around in a little birdbath that we have near the hanging baskets. For those who are interested their scientific name is Poecile atricapillus.

Their "chick-a-dee-dee-dee" call is distinctive and they are found in most parts of Canada and the Northern half of the USA. They are the Provincial bird of the Province of New Brunswick.

They have a distinct black cap and bib with white cheeks, grey back and wings and white and buff underside. Top photo taken in July 2013, Bottom photos taken in August 2010.
