The Whimbrel (Scientific name - Numenius phaeopus) is a large shorebird of the curlew species. The species breeds in the Arctic and sub Arctic regions of North America and migrates as far south as South America. They are distinguished by the striped crown and long curved bill.
The photos here were taken in June 2012 on Moolack Beach just North of Newport, Oregon.
